In addition to incorporating fishnet worn over her shoulders and legs, specifically on her right calf and her left thigh, she also wears her headband around her neck. In Part II, Temari's appearance is completely different, exchanging her previous purple-colored robe for a short-sleeved black one that reaches down to her legs, with slits along the side and a more revealing neckline. While she retains a red sash tied around her waist, she now uses black gloves and wears her headband over her forehead.
For the remainder of Part I after the Sasuke Retrieval Arc, Temari displays a slightly different outfit than her first one, consisting of a gray top worn over a darker purple-colored blouse and a dark blue skirt.

Weapon of Choice: Giant Folding Fan (tessen); Temari's giant folding fan has three purple circles along its body that she calls moons. The strength of the gusts of wind she creates is indicated by how many "stars" ("moons" in the English dub) are shown (one being the weakest, three being the strongest). The fan itself can also be used as a club or to block attacks. Temari's fan also seems to be able to deflect kunai and shuriken when opened and planted into the ground. This suggests that Temari's fan paper may be made out of some sort of steel.

Brief description of what it does: This bold move is Temari's specialty. By freely manipulating the gale brought forth by her Giant Folding Fan, the many air currents collide and create vacuum pockets. The person enveloped by this gale is assaulted by countless invisible blades, carving up their body. Also, the strong wind power will blow away all incoming projectile weapons and will even make the opponent unable to stay on their feet.
Temari has also shown the ability to manipulate the form of the gale, creating a tornado to envelop and lift her opponent, while also cutting him several times. She is also skilled enough to cut away the armor of a samurai without injuring the wearer.

Brief description of what it does: Temari summons Kamatari, a one-eyed sickle-holding weasel, by wiping blood on her Giant Folding Fan as payment for the contract and then swings it. The fan whips up a tempest and summons Kamatari who rides the wind, slashing through everything it touches. The effects of the technique stretch outwards for several hundred meters. The swirling winds also whip up trees, boulders, and other forms of debris, which then rain down on the helpless enemy. It is highly effective when surrounded on all sides, when the enemy's position is relatively unknown, or when the enemy is hiding behind a shield. One of this technique's few weaknesses is the fact that it exposes the user's position.

Brief description of what it does: Temari swings her fan to the sky, causing a giant tornado to descend upon a target. This technique can be set up as a feint as it has a delayed activation. The technique alters weather conditions temporarily and attacks from the sky rather than from the person. The storm clouds that create the attack dissipate immediately after the tornado begins while the tornado continues in a highly concentrated state.

Persona
Personality: Temari is generally overbearing, if not blunt, toward those around her, rarely afraid to speak her mind. Temari does have a caring side, however, and is not above showing concern for others. She seems to value peace, as she questioned the reasoning of starting a war with Konoha. It is shown in Part I during the Chūnin Exams that the one person she is afraid of is Gaara. When Gaara and Kankurō were fighting she showed a light, happy, mood to make sure Gaara didn't hurt her or Kankurō. In Part II, Temari acts as a diplomatic liaison between Sunagakure and Konohagakure to prepare for the next Chūnin Exams. Like Kankurō, her relations with Gaara have greatly improved, although she isn't as close as the two brothers. When Gaara was captured by Akatsuki, Temari hurried back to the village to save her brother, and when Kankurō was poisoned, she watched over him until he was ready to move himself.
Many of Temari's appearances are associated with Shikamaru Nara. Though they were opponents during the Chūnin Exams, they came to each others' aid at different points in Part I. When Naruto returned to Konoha at the start of Part II and saw the two of them walking together, he asked them if they were on a date, which both of them denied. Despite her usual tough demeanor, she has a tendency to show a softer nature around Shikamaru. Some examples include showing sympathy for him after his father scolded him for questioning if he should be a ninja after the Sasuke rescue mission failed. Later, after Shikamaru had escorted her to the Konoha gates near the beginning of Part II, she told him that he should take his duties more seriously, and to quickly become a Jōnin like herself. This theme was continued when she was assigned to the Fourth Division of the Allied Shinobi Forces with Shikamaru. She tells him to "look alive" and act more like a leader now that he was essentially the division's acting general in Gaara's place.

History: Temari is the daughter of Yondaime Kazekage and the older sister of Kankurou and Gaara. Temari graduated from the Ninja Academy at the age of 12. At some point she bore witness to Gaara going into his full Shukaku mode, which shocked and sickened her. The village leaders began to resent the way their village was being treated by the Wind Country Daimyou. For that reason Suna planned to invade and attack Konoha with Hidden Sound. Little did they know that Sound was using Suna for their own ends, with Orochimaru killing Temari's father and then impersonating him to further draw them into war.

Plans were in place for Gaara to be used in the invasion, so she and her team entered into the Chuunin Exam under their sensei Baki. When they arrived in Konoha other Leaf Genin confronted them about why they were there. Temari mocked them for not realizing there was a Chuunin Exam happening. She and her team took their leave and then went to the first test. The skillfully trained team easily made it past the first portion of the exam and then entered the second. Due to Gaara's Shukaku protection they breezed through this portion as well. When they sought out their scroll, Gaara took the forefront and easily killed the Rain ninja who attacked them. When Gaara's bloodlust began to get the better of him Temari pleaded with him to listen to her and calm down. He finally relented and they made it to the test finish in record time.

In the third test preliminary matches of the Chuunin Exam, Temari was placed against TenTen. Utilizing her wind techniques, Temari was able to totally nullify TenTen's ranged weapon attacks and utterly defeat her. Tossing the unconscious TenTen aside Rock Lee jumped to his teammate's defense. He moved to attack Temari after she insulted TenTen's abilities, but Might Guy stepped in to stop him from fighting before his time came. She and her siblings each won their preliminary match and they began their month long wait for the third and final test.

In the third test Temari was placed against Nara Shikamaru. Shikamaru expressed his discontent with having to fight a woman and Temari took it personally. Both ninja were skilled strategists and the match went back and forth as each fighter felt the other out. Temari launched numerous slicing wind gusts and while Shikamaru hid from the shadows attempting to bind her with his shadow. Shikamaru's intellect won out in the end, as he used his shadow to maneuver Temari into position to capture and bind her. Though she thought she was going to lose, Shikamaru gave up because he was almost out of chakra.

When the invasion was finally launched, Temari and Kankurou moved to escort the wounded Gaara outside the village to allow him to transform. On the way Sasuke gave chase and Temari stayed behind to delay him. She quickly caught back up with Gaara and watched as he rampaged in his Shukaku form. To her surprise though, he was fought evenly by Uzumaki Naruto, who had summoned Gamabunta to help him. Naruto's strong will to protect his friends won out though, and Gaara was defeated. Coming to her exhausted brothers aid, Temari and Kankurou fled. With Gaara's and Orochimaru's defeat the invasion failed and Suna retreated. In the following weeks Suna would bow to Konoha's terms and once again become their ally. This help would soon be needed when Uchiha Sasuke left Konoha to seek out power under Orochimaru.

Tsunade dispatched a Genin team led by Shikamaru to retrieve Sasuke and also contacted Suna for help. With the Leaf in trouble with the Four Sounds, Temari and her siblings arrived and she chose to assist Shikamaru. She asked for information on her opponent Tayuya and when Shikamaru suggested retreat she said shouldn't be underestimated. Wiping blood on her fan she summoned Kamatari the weasel and scythes which cut down the forest and Tayuya. Shikamaru felt Temari was even scarier than his own mother and she gave an embarrassed grin back, stating she may have overdone it.

While the Konoha ninja were saved from death, they failed to return Sasuke. The Sand siblings returned to Konoha with the injured ninja from Konoha. At the hospital Shikamaru expressed his fears for his friends and Temari chided him for his frailties. They soon took their leave and Temari told Shikamaru they'd be there if they needed help again. Shikamaru grinned and continued his bemused comments about women. A shortwhile later in an anime filler arc, Shikamaru got his chance to pay Suna back, coming to the aid of Temari when ninja abducted an academy trainee from their village.

In the following years Temari passed the Chuunin Exam and advanced in rank to Jounin. During this time she began serving as a liaison to Leaf to help plan the Chuunin Exams with fellow examiner Shikamaru. When she learned that her younger brother Gaara had been captured by Akatsuki, she quickly returned home to lend help. She arrived too late and remained behind to guard her village when Naruto and his team began to track down Gaara's abductors. When Kankurou was sufficiently recuperated, she and he alongside numerous other Sand ninja raced to help Gaara. They arrived in time to see Chiyo bring him back to life. She was greatly relieved and later wished the Leaf ninja goodbye when they left Hidden Sand.
